I can't believe it's already August, when the temperatures usually reach their summer highs in KC and the neighborhood children prepare to return to school. August also brings back a lot of memories and mixed emotions for me; this year August 18th marks my five year "surgiversary" (the anniversary of my first brain surgery). I actually have a calendar reminder that goes off on the 18th of every month that simply says "Grateful." I know that I mention this a lot, but God really taught me how to choose joy and gratitude/praise in the midst of uncertainty and discomfort - I just had to focus on His unchanging character and faithfulness. Did it make the pain go away? No, but it helped it become more bearable.
I look forward to spending more time this month reflecting on what God has taught me in this crazy journey over the past five years. I'll definitely spend some time reading my past journals in order to remind myself how far I've come and how His hand has been over the me the whole time. Thanks for following along on this journey with me.
